Welcome!
We’re excited to begin sharing a series of articles designed to educate our clients, highlight the latest research, and showcase the innovations and training aids developed at Precision Explosives. Our goal is to support handlers, trainers, and K9 programs with accurate information and proven tools that make detection training safer, more effective, and grounded in science!
After more than two decades of experience in explosives handling, military operations, and K9 detection training, Precision Explosives remains dedicated to one mission: helping ensure everyone comes home safely at the end of the day.
Training narcotics detection canines to recognize fentanyl—one of the most potent synthetic opioids known—demands precision, consistency, and a strict commitment to safety. Given the significant dangers associated with direct exposure, non-hazardous odor training aids are now a critical component of safe, effective K9 detection programs.
The Fentanyl Odor Print, powered by Polymer Odor Capture and Release and developed by Precision Explosives, delivers a safe, certified, and cost-effective way to train detection dogs to identify fentanyl across real-world environments—without ever handling or storing the actual substance.
✅ 100% real fentanyl odor profile (no synthetic substitutes)
🧪 Certified laboratory-grade reference material
⚙️ Non-hazardous, safe, and DEA license-free
💪 Durable aluminum “dog bone” housing
🔬 Field-tested by professional K9 handlers
What is Polymer Odor Capture and Release?
Polymer Odor Capture and Release (POCR) allows for canine detection training with 100% real odors in operational environments. The detection dogs are exposed to the true scent signatures, rather than synthetic mimics. The odor material is designed for sustained use over several months, making it both practical and cost-effective.
For the Precision Explosives Fentanyl Odor Print, the material is set in pure fentanyl under controlled laboratory conditions for seven days, capturing the true odor profile without retaining any hazardous compound!
What this means for you: both handlers and dogs are effectively training using a scientifically credible, affordable, non-hazardous, and field-proven solution that utilizes the true chemical signature of fentanyl with none of the risks.
What Is the Precision Explosives Fentanyl Odor Print?
A Fentanyl Odor Print is a controlled, lab-produced training aid that replicates the authentic scent profile of fentanyl using POCR material. Each Odor Print provides trainers with a safe, consistent, and fully traceable tool for narcotics detection training.
The Odor Print is engineered to slowly release odor molecules over time, which ensures a consistent, stable odor presentation - reducing the variability that can occur with live substances or volatile compounds. Imprint and train your dog with no odor loss or intensity shifts!
Working lifespan: Approximately 150 hours of exposure
Shelf life: Around one year, depending on use and storage
Available sizes:
Regular - 4 inches in length (≈20g equivalent)
Mini - 2.8 inches in length (≈10g equivalent)
Each Odor Print is sealed between two anodized aluminum “dog bone” plates with pawprint cutouts and secured by rare earth magnets. This design prevents contamination, allows quick placement on metal surfaces, and withstands field conditions during repeated use in training. Tough conditions and tough dogs are no match for the Precision Explosives’ long-lasting hardware!

Odor Prints with POCR Technology
Odor Prints with POCR Technology are designed specifically for narcotics detection K9s, allowing handlers to train using real narcotics odors without any risk or regulatory barriers.
No DEA license required: These aids do not require any DEA licensing or special storage.
Safe in all environments: Can be deployed and stored safely anywhere—indoors, outdoors, or in mobile training units.
Long-lasting odor release: POCR material slowly releases odor over six months to one year, depending on use.
Affordable and practical: Engineered to be cost-effective and durable for long-term use.
Contamination-proof design: The Odor Print Dog Bone housing protects the scent source and prevents contamination during transport or deployment.
Convenient size: Each Odor Print measures 4 inches in length, contains two rare earth magnets for secure placement, and replicates 20 grams of target odor.
All target odors are created from pure, lab-certified materials. Each product features a QR code on the package that links directly to its Certificate of Analysis (COA) for verification.
Precision Explosives currently offers a wide range of narcotic odors. To ensure freshness and peak odor performance, all Odor Prints are made to order. Please allow two to three weeks lead time for production.
Composition and Safety
Every Fentanyl Odor Print is designed with safety, reliability, and performance in mind:
Completely non-toxic: The POCR ribbon is inert and safe to handle—even if accidentally ingested.
Durable aluminum casing: The ribbon is enclosed between two aluminum “dog bone” plates with pawprint cutouts, secured by rare earth magnets for consistent, easy placement during training.
Odor-neutral construction: Materials used in the casing are odor-free, eliminating the need for proofing.
Clearly labeled: Each Odor Print is stamped with its target odor for quick identification.
Protected packaging: Sealed in metallized mylar bags to preserve odor integrity (freezing not recommended).
Blank controls available: Aluminum casing blanks available for proofing.
Certified Reference Material
Each Fentanyl Odor Print is produced using certified reference material supplied by Lipomed AG, an ISO-accredited analytical standards manufacturer.
Certificate of Analysis: Lot No. 622.2B27.1
Purity: 99.907 ± 0.002% (verified via HPLC)
Testing Standards: ISO 9001, ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 17034
Chemical Formula: C₂₂H₂₈N₂O
CAS Registry Number: 437-38-7
Retest Date: September 2026
This certification confirms that each Odor Print is derived from verified, traceable, laboratory-certified fentanyl, ensuring scientific integrity, accuracy, and safety in every training aid we produce.
Purest Fentanyl Detection Dog Training Aid on the Market
Training with live fentanyl is not only impractical—it’s life-threatening. The Fentanyl Odor Print offers a controlled, consistent, and risk-free method to imprint the odor profile without exposure to the drug itself.
For law enforcement, customs, and military K9 programs, Odor Prints represent a major leap forward in operational safety and training realism, helping teams stay sharp without regulatory complications or health risks.
Field-Proven Detection Dog Training Aid Performance
Canines trained with Fentanyl Odor Prints consistently demonstrate high detection accuracy across multiple environments, including:
Vehicles and cargo inspections
Buildings and residential searches
Mailrooms, luggage, and transit areas
Because each Odor Print captures the authentic scent profile, dogs can generalize effectively to fentanyl analogs such as fentanyl citrate, fluoro-fentanyl, and others—making these aids vital tools in narcotics interdiction efforts.

Conclusion
The Fentanyl Odor Print by Precision Explosives combines scientific precision, certified purity, and field-proven performance. Designed with Polymer Odor Capture and Release Technology, these training aids provide true narcotics odor exposure without the risks, storage requirements, or regulatory hurdles of live substances.
Safe, effective, and backed by certified laboratory materials, Fentanyl Odor Prints empower handlers to train confidently and responsibly—protecting both K9s and their human partners.
“Precision Explosives continues to set the standard for excellence… Their professionalism, product reliability, and dedication to advancing K9 capability make them a trusted partner in our mission to enhance public safety and operational effectiveness.”
